Platform requirements and limits
Updated August 24, 2026
Every platform accepts different media and different amounts of text. Pluspoint enforces each platform’s rules as you build the post. Use this article to size your assets before you start, and to work out why a platform tab in the editor is showing a warning.
Before you start
- These rules apply in the post editor at Social → Posts. See Creating and scheduling posts for the flow itself.
- The editor shows you the strictest rules for the platforms you have currently selected, and names the platform that sets each ceiling.
- Sizes are in decimal megabytes, where 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes.
At a glance
| Platform | Text limit | Media allowed | Video | Delete a published post |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 characters | 1 image | Not supported | Yes | |
| 63,206 characters | 10 images or 1 video | Yes | Yes | |
| 2,200 characters | Up to 10 images or videos, mixed | Yes | Yes | |
| TikTok | 2,200 characters | 1 video or 35 images | Yes | No |
| X | 280 weighted characters | 4 images or 1 video | Yes | Yes |
| 3,000 characters | 20 images or 1 video | Yes | Yes | |
| Facebook Story | No text | Exactly 1 image or video | Yes | No |
| Instagram Story | No text | Exactly 1 image or video | Yes | Yes |
Text limits
The All platforms tab counts against the largest limit among the platforms you selected. Each platform tab counts against its own limit, so an over-length message usually shows up there first.
| Platform | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1,500 | ||
| 63,206 | ||
| 2,200 | ||
| 3,000 | ||
| X | 280 weighted | A link counts as 23 characters and each emoji or CJK character counts as 2. A message under 280 plain characters can still be rejected. |
| TikTok | 2,200 | The editor stops you at 2,200. On a TikTok photo post, TikTok cuts its own title to 90 characters without warning, while the description keeps up to 2,200. Put anything essential in the first 90 characters. |
| Facebook Story, Instagram Story | Not applicable | Stories publish media only. |
Dynamic variables count towards the limit, but at a discount. The counter charges each one as its bare token name, without the square brackets, as a rough stand-in for the value that will replace it. [location] therefore counts as eight characters, not ten.
Images
- Accepted formats:
.jpg,.jpegand.png. - File size: at least 10 KB and at most 10 MB.
- Dimensions: at least 250 × 250 pixels, and no more than 50,000,000 pixels in total.
Images larger than about 4.5 MB are re-encoded as JPEG and compressed automatically: quality drops in stages, then the image is scaled down if that is not enough. Transparent PNGs are flattened onto a white background. A file that cannot come under the size ceiling without falling below 250 × 250 pixels fails to upload.
Instagram Stories convert images to JPEG when publishing.
Videos
Videos are accepted on every platform except Google.
- Accepted format:
.mp4only, and the file is inspected to confirm it really is MP4. - Video codec: H.264 or HEVC.
- Audio, if present: AAC.
- Length: at least 3 seconds, and never more than 15 minutes.
- Size: never more than 1,000 MB.
- Resolution: never more than 4,096 pixels on the longest side.
Each platform then applies a tighter ceiling of its own.
| Platform | Maximum size | Maximum length | Maximum resolution | Minimum size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Video not supported | — | — | — | |
| 1,000 MB | 15 minutes | 4096 × 2304 | 1 KB | |
| Instagram, single video | 300 MB | 15 minutes | 1920 × 1920 | 1 KB |
| Instagram, video in a carousel | 100 MB | 60 seconds | 1920 × 1920 | 1 KB |
| TikTok | 1,000 MB | 10 minutes | 4096 × 4096 | 1 KB |
| X | 512 MB | 140 seconds | 1920 × 1920 | 1 KB |
| 500 MB | 15 minutes | 4096 × 2304 | 75 KB | |
| Facebook Story | 100 MB | 60 seconds | 1920 × 1920 | 1 KB |
| Instagram Story | 100 MB | 60 seconds | 1920 × 1920 | 1 KB |
Resolution is compared without regard to orientation, so a 1080 × 1920 portrait clip passes a 1920 × 1080 specification.
An Instagram video is judged by two different rules. On its own it publishes as a Reel and gets the larger allowance. Add a second media item and it becomes part of a carousel, dropping to 100 MB and 60 seconds.
Note TikTok only publishes videos that were uploaded through Pluspoint. Pointing a TikTok post at an external video URL is refused at save with TikTok can only publish videos uploaded through Pluspoint — upload the file or remove TikTok.
Media counts and mixing
The uploader on the All platforms tab accepts up to 10 items. Each platform then applies its own count and its own rule about mixing images with video.
| Platform | Maximum | Mixing images and video | Media required |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 image | Video not supported. Only the first image publishes. | No | |
| 10 images or 1 video | Not allowed | No | |
| 10 items | Allowed, published as a carousel | Yes | |
| TikTok | 1 video or 35 images | Not allowed | Yes, but only checked at publishing |
| X | 4 images or 1 video | Not allowed | No |
| 20 images or 1 video | Not allowed | No | |
| Facebook Story | Exactly 1 | Either an image or a video | Yes |
| Instagram Story | Exactly 1 | Either an image or a video | Yes |
Stories
Facebook Story and Instagram Story behave differently from every other platform:
- They publish media only. There is no message editor on a story tab.
- Exactly one image or video is required.
- Aim for a 9:16 aspect ratio. Media noticeably off 9:16 gets a warning that the platform will crop it to fit.
- A published story expires 24 hours after publishing, and its link may stop working from then on.
- A published Facebook Story cannot be deleted from Pluspoint. An Instagram Story can.
Platform notes
Pluspoint publishes a standard “What’s new” local post. There are no offer, event or product post types. Google posts carry an optional call-to-action button: Book, Order online, Buy, Learn more, Sign up or Call now. Every option except None and Call now requires a valid Link.
The location must have a verified, connected Google profile at the moment of publishing, not just at the moment you scheduled. Google local posts have no individual permalink, so the link on a published Google post opens the location’s Google Business Profile.
Instagram needs time to process uploads, and Pluspoint waits up to about five minutes before giving up on that post.
Instagram has no connection of its own in Pluspoint. Eligibility comes from the Instagram account linked to that location’s Facebook page on Meta’s side. Remove that link on Meta and Instagram silently disappears from the platform picker.
TikTok
- Posts are published as private, visible only to the TikTok account that publishes them. If a creator account does not offer that visibility setting at all, publishing to it fails.
- Videos must be uploaded through Pluspoint; TikTok pulls the file from Pluspoint rather than accepting a link you paste.
- Photo posts are published with music added automatically.
- An individual creator account can enforce a shorter maximum than the 10 minutes in the table above.
- TikTok processes uploads asynchronously, so a TikTok post can sit at Publishing for several minutes before it turns into Published or Not published.
- A published TikTok post cannot be deleted from Pluspoint.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Incorrect file format | The file is not JPG, PNG or MP4 | Convert or re-export the file. |
| File size should not exceed {size} {metric} | Over the upload ceiling. An image gets 10 MB. A video gets the largest allowance among the selected platforms, never more than 1,000 MB | Compress the file, or re-export it smaller. |
| File size should not be smaller than {size} {metric} | Under the floor — images need 10 KB, LinkedIn videos need 75 KB | Export at a higher quality. |
| Image cannot be reduced to the allowed file size while keeping at least 250x250 pixels. | The image cannot be compressed enough without going under the minimum | Re-export it smaller yourself, or use a different image. |
| Video must be between {min} and {max} seconds for the selected platforms | The clip sits outside the uploader’s duration window: a 3-second floor, and the longest allowance among the selected platforms as the ceiling | Trim or lengthen the clip. |
| You can upload maximum {limit} files | Over the count for that uploader | Remove some media, or tailor the post per platform so the strict platform gets fewer items. |
| Google posts can only have 1 image | More than one image with Google selected | Turn on Customize for Google and leave one image there. |
| Videos aren’t supported for Google | A video with Google selected | Customise the Google tab with an image instead, or remove Google. |
| Media must be no larger than {maxWidth}×{maxHeight} pixels for the selected platforms | The video exceeds the largest resolution among the selected platforms. Images are not checked against a maximum at upload | Re-export at a lower resolution. |
| Video exceeds the {limit} size limit for this platform, Video exceeds the {limit} duration limit for this platform, Video is wider than the {width}×{height} maximum for this platform, Video is below the {limit} minimum size for this platform | The video breaks that one platform’s video ceiling | Compare it against the video table above, then re-export, or customise that platform with a different file. |
| Video too large for: {platforms} and the other roll-up captions under the base uploader | One video breaks the rules for some of the selected platforms but not all | Either re-export to suit the strictest platform, or customise the platforms it does not fit. |
| Message exceeds the {count} character limit for this platform | Text over that platform’s limit | Turn on Customize for {platform} and shorten the copy for that platform only. |
