Campaign for specific contacts
Updated August 24, 2026
You target a campaign with segments. Tag the contacts you want in Contacts, then create a one-time campaign and choose that segment in the Segment field. Leave the field empty and the campaign goes to every contact the chosen channel can reach. That is rarely what you want for a promotion.
Before you start
- You need Campaigns set to Full, or to be the account owner. Read-only users can open campaigns but not create them.
- Campaigns must be included in your plan.
- You need a connected outgoing channel: SMS, Email, WhatsApp Business or WhatsApp (Beta). Facebook Messenger, Instagram and live chat cannot send campaigns.
- Contacts need the address the channel uses — a phone number for SMS and WhatsApp, an email address for Email.
- You create segments in Contacts; the campaign form cannot create one.
- Email campaigns need an email template in the Template library, and WhatsApp Business campaigns need an approved template there.
Where to find it
Campaigns → One-time, or go to https://app.pluspoint.io/campaigns/one-time.
Step 1 — Put the contacts in a segment
- Go to Contacts.
- For a single person, open the contact and use the Segment picker. Type a name and select the Create new segment row if the segment does not exist yet.
- For a group, tick the rows you want and select Edit. In Edit contacts, pick the segment under Segment and select Save changes. A segment shown as partly assigned stays mixed unless you re-select it. Bulk editing needs Contacts set to Full.
- Give the segment a name that describes the audience rather than the campaign, so you can reuse it.
Step 2 — Create and schedule the campaign
- Go to Campaigns → One-time and select Create campaign.
- Enter a Title. It is for your own reference and never shown to the customer.
- Choose a Channel. The first connected channel is preselected — set it deliberately rather than leaving the default.
- Set the Scheduled time.
- Choose one or more entries under Segment.
- Pick the content type — Message, or Coupon if you have coupon access.
- Compose the content for that channel (see the table below).
- Select Schedule campaign.
What you compose, by channel
| Channel | Content | Limits and notes |
|---|---|---|
| SMS | A message editor with Dynamic variables and the AI assistant | No length limit is enforced in the product |
| WhatsApp (Beta) | The same message editor, plus an optional Add image toggle | 1024 characters, counted live; images must be JPG or PNG and up to 5 MB |
| An Email design picked from the Template library; there is no message box | The subject and preheader come from the template, not from the campaign | |
| WhatsApp Business | An approved Template picked from the registry, previewed as a WhatsApp bubble | Free text is not possible; variables are filled from the contact and the location |
Insert personalisation tokens with Dynamic variables. [name] and [last_name] come from the contact. [location], [city], [primary_phone] and the rest come from the location the send is branded with. Type a fallback by hand as [name|there].
With the content type set to Coupon, you do not place the link yourself. SMS and WhatsApp (Beta) append a unique coupon URL to the end of the message text. Email and WhatsApp Business fill the template’s dynamic link button. Only coupon templates whose status is Active are offered.
Who actually receives it
The Selected contacts count is not simply the size of the segment. These rules decide the final number.
| Rule | Effect |
|---|---|
| Unsubscribed contacts | Excluded from the count and from the send |
| Missing address | Contacts with no phone number (SMS, WhatsApp) or no email address (Email) are left out |
| Several segments | Combined with OR — a contact in any of them is included once |
| No segment selected | Every contact the channel can address is included |
| WhatsApp Business counting | The preview count skips the phone-number filter, so it can be higher than the number of contacts that are actually reachable |
After you schedule
- Recipients are queued from the scheduled time, spaced about 30 seconds apart. WhatsApp (Beta) spaces them 30 to 60 seconds apart and rolls to the next day after 200 messages.
- Some failures stop the whole run: the channel drops out, the WhatsApp template becomes unusable, or the coupon stops being Active. The campaign then halts and the Status cell reads Failed.
- You can edit a campaign only while it is Scheduled or has failed. There is no pause. To stop one, delete it — which works while it is Scheduled or In progress.
- If a campaign fails, open it and select Save changes: it returns to Scheduled and only the recipients who never received anything are queued again.
- Every successful send lands on the contact’s activity timeline as Message sent via {{channel}}.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule campaign stays disabled and the count reads 0 | Nobody in the segment can be reached on that channel | Check the contacts have a phone number or email, and that they are not unsubscribed |
| An orange warning appears about keeping the campaign under 50 contacts | The channel is WhatsApp (Beta) and the audience is above 49 | Advisory only — it does not block sending. Splitting the audience lowers the blocking risk |
| ”You cannot edit campaign” | The campaign is already In progress or Completed | Delete an in-progress campaign to stop it and create a replacement. A completed campaign cannot be removed from the list — create a new campaign instead |
| Save fails with “Campaigns are not included in your current plan” | The plan does not include Campaigns, or the account is over its location or user quota | Raise the counts or the plan on Settings → Billing. An over-quota account is blocked from campaign sends even when the plan includes Campaigns |
| Fewer messages went out than the count promised | Contacts were skipped as unsubscribed or unreachable | Check the contact records; skipped recipients still advance the progress counter |
