Template library
Updated August 24, 2026
The Template library holds the ready-made designs your campaigns and automations send. Build an email once in the block builder, or register a WhatsApp Business template for Meta approval. Every campaign that needs one then picks it from here. Email and WhatsApp Business campaigns cannot be sent at all without a template from this library.
Before you start
- Your plan must include campaigns. Without it, the Campaigns area shows an upgrade screen instead of the library.
- Creating, editing, duplicating, archiving and deleting templates need the
campaigns:fullpermission tier (or account ownership). Withcampaigns:restrictedtemplates open read-only.- Create WhatsApp template is disabled until the account has a connected WhatsApp Business channel. See WhatsApp Business channel.
- Sending a test email needs a connected email channel. See Email channel.
Where to find it
Campaigns → Library, or go to https://app.pluspoint.io/campaigns/library.
Find your way around the grid
The chips on a card tell you what a template is and whether it can be used:
| Chip | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Example | A seeded starter design. Read-only until you duplicate it, and hidden from campaign pickers |
| Archived | Hidden from future campaign pickers. Existing campaigns that already use it keep working |
| Needs setup | A WhatsApp template whose variables are not mapped yet, or whose image header has no image |
| Disconnected | The template’s WhatsApp Business account is no longer connected |
The per-card menu offers:
- Duplicate — creates a copy and opens it for editing straight away.
- Archive / Unarchive — takes the template out of campaign pickers without deleting it.
- Delete — disabled while campaigns or automations still use the template.
Starter examples
Every account is seeded once with four example email designs. They carry the Example chip and do not appear in campaign pickers. Duplicate one to get an editable copy — using an example directly is refused.
Build an email template
Select Create email template, or Create new from the Email design picker inside a campaign.
- On Settings, fill in the Template name. It is required, capped at 512 characters, and must be unique in the account.
- Choose a Brand if the account has brands. Picking one pulls that brand’s background and button colours into the design.
- Write the Subject — up to 512 characters, with its own dynamic-variables button. Leave it empty and the send falls back to a generated subject built from the location name.
- Write the Preheader — the preview line shown next to the subject in an inbox. Up to 512 characters, variables supported.
- Switch to Content and assemble the email from blocks.
- Click any block to open its settings.
- Switch to Preview to check the result and send yourself a test.
- Select Save template.
Blocks
| Block | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Logo | Your logo, resolved from brand or location branding when the email is sent |
| Image | A picture, optionally linked |
| Heading | An H1, H2 or H3 line |
| Text | A rich-text paragraph |
| Button | A call-to-action button with a chosen destination |
| Columns | A two-column row you drop other blocks into |
| Divider | A horizontal rule |
| Spacer | Vertical white space |
| Social links | Facebook and Instagram links, taken from the location profile |
Columns cannot be nested inside columns.
Button destinations
The Destination field decides what a button links to. It also decides which kind of campaign can use the template.
| Destination | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Custom URL | You supply the Link. Dynamic variables are supported |
| Survey link | Left empty here — the campaign that uses the template fills it with the survey link |
| Coupon link | Left empty here — the campaign that uses the template fills it with the coupon link |
Survey link and Coupon link are mutually exclusive across the whole template. Once one button targets a survey link, the coupon option is disabled on every other button — and the other way around.
This is also what the campaign picker filters on. A template with no dynamic-link button can only be used by a plain message campaign. A template with one can only be used by the matching survey or coupon campaign.
Email limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Blocks per template | 50 |
| Template name | 512 characters |
| Subject | 512 characters |
| Preheader | 512 characters |
| Text and HTML fields | 20,000 characters |
| URLs | 2,000 characters |
| Image upload | 5 MB, JPG or PNG, minimum width 600 px |
| Spacer height | 8–160 px |
The compliance footer
Every email carries an automatic footer holding your business name, business address, an Unsubscribe link and a Privacy policy link. It cannot be edited, restyled or removed, and it is what keeps your sends compliant.
Preview and test
On the Preview tab, variables render with sample values rather than real contact data, and the unsubscribe link in the preview does nothing.
To send yourself a real copy, fill in the recipient Email, choose the Email channel, and select Send test. A test send saves the template first, and the chosen channel must be connected.
Create a WhatsApp Business template
WhatsApp Business does not allow free-text marketing messages — every campaign message must be a template Meta has approved. Build it here, submit it, and use it once it comes back approved.
- Select Create WhatsApp template.
- Enter the Template name. It is slugified as you type: lowercase letters, digits and underscores only, spaces become underscores. Name and language together must be unique.
- Choose the Language.
- Choose the Category: Marketing or Utility.
- If the account has more than one connected WhatsApp Business account, choose the WhatsApp Business account. This is locked once the template exists.
- Choose the Header: None, Text or Image.
- Write the Body. This is the required part of the message.
- Add Footer text (optional) if you want a closing line.
- Add Buttons if you need them.
- Complete the Variables table so every
{{param}}knows what fills it. - Select Save draft to keep working, or Submit for review to send it to Meta.
Meta reviews submissions usually within a few hours, up to 24 hours.
Field rules
| Field | Rules |
|---|---|
| Template name | Lowercase letters, digits and underscores; up to 512 characters; unique per name and language. Editable only while the template is a Draft |
| Language | English, Español, Português, Українська, Deutsch, Français or Italiano; the default follows your account locale. Editable only while the template is a Draft |
| Category | Marketing or Utility — authentication templates are not supported. Editable only while the template is a Draft |
| Header text | Single line, up to 60 characters, at most one variable |
| Header image | JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB. Required once you choose an image header |
| Body | Required, up to 1024 characters |
| Footer text (optional) | Up to 60 characters, no variables |
| Button label | Up to 25 characters |
The body has four rules the editor enforces as you type:
- It cannot start or end with a variable.
- It cannot mix named and numbered variables.
- Only variables from the supported field list may be used.
- Braces must be well formed —
{{lowercase_name}}with letters, digits and underscores.
Buttons
| Button kind | What you provide | Where the destination comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Quick reply | A label | Nothing to configure |
| Visit website | A label and a Link starting with http:// or https:// | You |
| Survey link | A label | Filled with the survey link by the campaign that uses the template |
| Coupon link | A label | Filled with the coupon link by the campaign that uses the template |
| Phone | A label and a phone number | You |
| Button limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Buttons in total | 10 |
| URL buttons (website plus survey or coupon) | 2 |
| Phone buttons | 1 |
| Dynamic link buttons (survey or coupon) | 1 |
Quick-reply buttons must sit together in the list — the form refuses to save when they are separated by other kinds.
Map the variables
Insert variables in the header and body with the Dynamic variables button. They appear as chips in the editor and are stored for Meta as {{token}}.
The Variables table lists one row per variable used in the header and body. Its Filled with options are grouped into Contact (First name, Last name) and Location (location name, brand, geomodifier, phone, email, website, address, city, state, postal code, country). Every row must be filled before the template can be used.
A dynamic-link button adds its own internal link slot. The campaign fills it, and it does not appear as a row here.
WhatsApp status lifecycle
| Status | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Not sent to Meta yet | Edit everything, save, submit |
| In review | With Meta | Read-only until the review finishes |
| Approved | Usable in campaigns | Edit the content and mapping, but saving resubmits it to Meta. Name, language and category are locked |
| Rejected | Meta refused it; the reason is shown | Use Edit & resubmit |
| Paused | Meta paused it | Edit and resubmit; the same resubmission warning applies |
| Disabled | Meta disabled it | Nothing — it cannot be edited or used |
Two more rules govern editability:
- A template used by scheduled or running campaigns or by enabled automations is fully read-only. Duplicate it to edit, or remove those references first.
- A setup-only save — where you changed only the variable mapping or the header image — does not resubmit the template to Meta. This is how you finish templates that arrived from Meta without a mapping.
Templates that come from Meta
Templates created directly in Meta Business Manager appear here on their own, usually within the hour.
Imported templates usually arrive with the Needs setup chip because their variables carry no mapping yet. Open each one, complete the Variables table, and upload a header image if the header is an image. Until then they will not appear in campaign template pickers.
Status changes Meta makes — approval, rejection, pause, disable — arrive automatically and update the chip. A template that loses approval fails the running campaigns that use it, and pauses the automations that use it. So when a campaign fails for no obvious reason, check the Library first.
Use a template in a campaign
Email. Finish the design in the Library, then pick it in the Email design picker on a campaign or on an automation send step. Only non-archived, non-example templates whose link capability matches the campaign type are offered. You can also build one on the spot with the Create new card — it is saved into the Library like any other.
WhatsApp Business. Create the template, Submit for review, wait for Meta’s approval, then finish any variable mapping so it stops showing Needs setup. It then appears in the Template dropdown on campaigns and automation send steps — but only when the channel you selected uses the same WhatsApp Business account.
Archiving a template hides it from future pickers and leaves campaigns that already reference it working.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Create WhatsApp template is disabled | The account has no connected WhatsApp Business channel | Connect one. See WhatsApp Business channel |
| The Create button and card menus are missing | You have campaigns:restricted, which is view-only | Ask an admin to raise your Campaigns tier. See Users and permissions |
| The whole WhatsApp form is read-only | The template is in review, disabled, or in use by scheduled or running campaigns or enabled automations | Wait for the review, or duplicate the template and edit the copy |
| A template shows Disconnected | Its WhatsApp Business account is no longer connected | Reconnect the account. See WhatsApp Business |
| The template does not appear in a campaign’s picker | It is archived, an Example, not approved, unmapped, on a different WhatsApp Business account, or its link capability does not match the campaign type | Unarchive or duplicate it, finish its setup, or change the campaign’s channel or content type |
| The coupon option is greyed out on a button | Another button in the same template already targets a survey link | Change that button, or use a separate template |
| The test email never arrives | The chosen Email channel is not connected | Reconnect it in Account settings → Channels, then send the test again |
