WhatsApp (Beta) channel

Updated August 24, 2026

A WhatsApp (Beta) channel links an ordinary WhatsApp account to Pluspoint by scanning a QR code, the same way you link WhatsApp Web. Messages sent to that number arrive in the Inbox, and you can send from it too. Use it when you want WhatsApp on an existing handset number without going through Meta’s Cloud API approval. The trade-off is the daily sending limits that come with it.

Before you start

  • You need to be the account Owner, or belong to a team with full settings access.
  • At least one Team with messaging access must exist — see Teams.
  • Have the phone with the WhatsApp account in your hand: pairing needs you to scan a QR code, and the phone must stay linked afterwards.
  • The number must not already be connected to another channel on the same Pluspoint account.
  • For a number on Meta’s official Cloud API, with no daily ramp and no device to keep linked, use the WhatsApp Business channel instead.

Where to find it

Settings (left sidebar, footer area) → Channels tab, or go to https://app.pluspoint.io/account-settings/channels.

Create and pair the channel

  1. Select Add new channel.
  2. Choose WhatsApp (Beta) and select Continue.
  3. Complete the form:
    • Channel name — required.
    • Team — required. Only teams with messaging access are listed.
    • New WhatsApp account? — tick it if the number was registered fewer than 30 days ago. See the limits below.
    • Link this channel to a location or brand — optional.
  4. Select Continue. The channel is created with the status Pending while Pluspoint opens a pairing session.
  5. Wait for the QR code to appear, then follow the on-screen instructions:
    1. Open WhatsApp on the phone with the number you are connecting.
    2. Tap Settings, then tap the QR icon.
    3. Tap Scan and point your phone at this screen.
  6. The wizard moves on by itself when the pairing finishes; select Done.

Sending limits

LimitValue
Messages delivered per channel per day200, counted per calendar day in UTC
New-account ramp, day 12 messages
New-account ramp, each following dayPrevious day’s allowance × 1.5, rounded — 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and so on
Free-text length in the new-conversation composer1,024 characters

The ramp applies only while New WhatsApp account? is ticked and the channel is less than a month old. Pluspoint clears the flag automatically once the channel is 31 days old, and the 200-per-day ceiling then applies on its own. Ticking the box on a young number makes it much less likely that WhatsApp blocks it for bulk sending.

Re-pair a channel

WhatsApp unlinks devices from time to time, and the channel then shows Disconnected.

  1. Select the pencil icon on the channel’s card.
  2. If the channel is Pending or Disconnected, Pluspoint goes straight to the QR step instead of the settings form.
  3. Scan the new code from the phone.

A connected, healthy channel opens the normal edit modal instead; the WhatsApp number itself is read-only.

What to expect from this channel type

  • Pairing depends on a linked device, exactly like WhatsApp Web. If the phone loses the link, Pluspoint sets the channel to Disconnected and emails the account. Its unfinished campaigns are marked failed, and automations that use it stop working.
  • Deleting the channel also disconnects the paired session.
  • WhatsApp (Beta) channels can be used as the Phone notifications channel for a live chat channel.
